ASHA’s professional staff work diligently on behalf of those who develop, own, operate, and finance the full spectrum of housing and services for older adults. The Association’s five full-time employees collectively have over 50 years of experience serving professionals involved in independent living, assisted living and memory care, and life plan/continuing care communities.

ASHA staff are actively involved in advocacy on Capitol Hill, industry research and communications, consumer education, media relations, and the planning and hosting of top-notch meetings for industry leaders. In addition, staff are available to provide members with general guidance on questions of substance and business opportunity.

David S. Schless

David S. Schless has served as President of ASHA since its creation in 1991.  With 20 years of experience in seniors housing, David has an extensive understanding of seniors housing policy and regulatory issues, and an intimate knowledge of the seniors housing business.  His responsibilities include serving as Treasurer of ASHA’s Seniors Housing Political Action Committee, the nation’s largest PAC focused exclusively on supporting federal candidates who support the development and preservation of high quality seniors housing.

David is a co-author of the HDR Affordable Seniors Housing Handbook, which was revised and published annually between 1995 and 2005 by the West Group.  In 2007, David joined the Advisory Board of The Erickson School of Aging, Management and Policy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore College (UMBC).  He currently serves on the editorial board of the Seniors Housing & Care Journal and has been honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by both the University of Connecticut and the University of North Texas for his work on behalf of seniors.

David holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Center for Aging and Human Development at the University of Connecticut, and a Master of Science degree from the Department of Applied Gerontology/Center for Studies in Aging at the University of North Texas.

Jeanne McGlynn Delgado

Jeanne McGlynn Delgado

Jeanne McGlynn Delgado leads ASHA’s public policy efforts on Capitol Hill and before federal agencies. In this capacity, she works closely with Randy Hardock, ASHA’s longtime Chief Legislative Counsel.

Most recently, Jeanne has served as Vice President for Business & Risk Management Policy and Government Affairs at the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC).  In that position, she spent the past 11 years lobbying for leading multifamily housing developers, managers, and owners on a host of policy issues including insurance, housing finance, fair housing, and tax before Congress and the federal agencies.

Prior to her employment with NMHC, Jeanne spent several years working at the National Association of REALTORS (NAR), developing and implementing public policy positions on federal issues. She began her career managing the Political Action Committee for the American Chiropractic Association.

Jeanne earned her Bachelors of Arts  from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

Doris Maultsby

Doris Maultsby, Vice President, Member Services, joined ASHA in 1999. Her roles include management of the Association’s meetings, membership, and operations. Additionally, Doris  oversees a number of the Association’s annual research projects, such as the Continuing Care Retirement Community and Assisted Living State Regulatory Handbook.

Prior to joining ASHA, Doris held several marketing and member services positions at the National Multi Housing Council and The Advisory Board Company. She is a member of Meeting Professionals International and the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Sheff Richey

Sheffield “Sheff” Richey, Manager, Government Affairs, is responsible for helping to coordinate ASHA’s public policy efforts on Capitol Hill and administer Seniors Housing PAC (SH PAC). In this capacity, he works closely with Jeanne McGlynn Delgado, ASHA’s Vice President, Government Affairs.

Prior to joining ASHA, Sheff worked as a political fundraiser and advisor for 16 Members of Congress. He started in the field of political fundraising working for former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) as a lead fundraiser for his re-election campaign and Leadership Political Action Committee (PAC). In that role he also advised the Majority Leader on political races around the country. Sheff started working on Capitol Hill in the Majority Leader’s Capitol Leadership Office.

Sheff received his B.A. in Politics from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. He is from Alexandria, VA.

Meghan Bertoni

Meghan “Megs” Bertoni, Manager, Member Services, joined ASHA in 2016.  Her responsibilities include meeting registrations and on-site event facilitation, assisting with ASHA’s newsletters, coordinating the Where You Live Matters campaign, and supporting ASHA President, David Schless, on the Rising Leaders Program and various other projects.
She is also responsible for maintaining the Association’s website.  Additionally, Meghan oversees the ASHA’s annual research projects, the Seniors Housing State Regulatory Handbook, The State of Seniors Housing and the ASHA 50.

Meghan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of Maryland.
